Some mornings, it was rather hard to tell if it was a good thing to be both poorly off financially and cheap as fuck, or bad. This was one such morning. At worst, you had to wake up a couple hours early to make it to a frankly shitty job that didn’t pay its workers nearly what they deserved for the things they put up with. Honestly, it could’ve been half an hour beforehand were it not for the individual who helped you make rent every month. By virtue of the fact that neither of you really had enough to spare, the apartment you’d rented was a single-bed affair. And unfortunately, your roommate was a very heavy sleeper, in more ways than one. Pleasant company though the scaled girl might’ve been, the simple fact of how much she habitually tossed and turned in her sleep was quite problematic, when so often she ended up either partially or entirely atop you. This presented issues in two ways. Firstly, she had a solid foot and a half of height on you, and was a little heavyset by proportion. The second big issue was her tail. It seemed like every time she was out cold next to you, it would find its way around you. Thicker than one of your legs, it could rest just as heavily as she could, and tangle you up even better.

Naturally, it became a point of disagreement on who got the bed and who got the couch in the tiny common room connecting the bedroom to the kitchen. She was a bit too big to lie comfortably on the couch, and had picked the apartment in part for its larger beds. You couldn’t sleep well on the couch thanks to the soreness you felt upon waking any time that you did. For better or worse, you were willing to compromise, sharing the bed obviously meant for a singular person under the agreement that you would make an effort to wake her earlier, and she would make an effort to be less of a layabout in the mornings. You liked to think that you were at least a little successful on your part. You shifted and squirmed against her weight, freeing your numbed arm from beneath her. It seemed to rouse her slightly, a small huff and some shifting setting you further beneath her. If you had more time to work with, you probably wouldn’t have minded the fact that her rather magnificent rack was nestled just below your chin, some obscure anime t-shirt stretched from years of wear staring you in the face. Once more you tried wriggling your way free, and again you found yourself buried by cuddles.

“Get off, Tia. I know you aren’t asleep anymore.” With the arm that hadn’t been asleep thanks to decreased circulation, you made the awkward attempt at getting a good angle to shake her shoulder. You had to wonder if she put herself over you more often these days just to muffle your protests upon waking up. An experimental stretch of your legs told you that both were firmly encircled by her massive tail, which meant trying to shimmy free that way would get you nowhere. “Seriously, we do this every morning. You know I have places to be.”

“Mmmnope… too comfy. N’ warm.” You could practically see the smug little grin lighting up her ruby eyes. If she even bothered opening them, yet. Struggling again against your living, cocoa-colored and emerald-scaled prison earned a bit of shifting from her, your resistance to her laziness finally starting to prevail. Not waiting to see if the movement was genuine or simply her way of yanking your chain, you made a roll for it, intending to catch yourself halfway off the bed. Instead, you found yourself almost face-planting, saved only by a quick catch of your hands. Glancing irritably back towards Tia, you could see the little catty smile on her lips as her arms crushed a pillow against her face and her wings wrapped around where you had been. Her tail relinquished your other leg after a moment, allowing you to stagger to your feet.

Knowing that she’d probably be asleep for another half hour or more, you crept into the kitchen, grabbing a plastic bowl, box of cereal and gallon of milk. Probably not the best breakfast you could’ve had, but preparing anything else was kind of a chore, and despite her typically lackadaisical behavior, Tia was by far the superior chef. When she could bother to get out of bed early enough to get something on the table, at least. As the bottom of the bowl came into sight, you heard the last thing you wanted to on a work day: the bathtub running. Apparently your roommate had decided to get herself in gear a little earlier today. Unfortunately, that would cut into the time you needed to prepare for another day sitting at a desk, answering asinine calls. But you couldn’t forego everything hygienic, making a point to crack the bathroom door just a little to make sure Tia had already gotten into the tub rather than walking in on her while she was getting ready to. With no shriek of indignity to suggest otherwise, you braved opening the door further, immediately moving to the sink to run some water over your toothbrush. Tia simply hummed a bit as you could hear her splashing water on the other side of the shower curtain.

“Hey, Tia?” You asked, still brushing which forced a bit of a mumble.

“Yeah?” It was the tone she used when she was feeling playful. Never a good sign.

“Next time, could you wait until after I’ve had my shower, so I don’t have to worry about running late for work?” You started the water in the sink, washing out the excess toothpaste a few swishes at a time. Of course, she had already probably been counting on you to ask, as her response nearly made you cough in surprise.

“You could always join in, you know. We’d be saving on hot water that way.”
A dragon-girl (possibly inspired by recently-popular figure Tohru) takes her sweet time lazing about in the mornings, much to the disdain of the guy who has to share an apartment with her.
